Just random techniques and moments I saw that I still rememberAlex Perez has some nice wrestling chaining. Going single to back take on a couple occasions. DC has quickly become the best wrestling analyst for commentators. Perez’s exact chain pointed out by DC was “single leg to high critics to back take”Alex Perez also had a nice moment of wrist control into ground strike combo. Made me think of Fedor, but you know a flyweight way less powerful versionDominick Cruz compared Sabina Mazo’s upright stance to Cerrone and then she started throwing the same knee right down the middle that Cerrone started using to keep guys from crashing in on him. It worked for Mazo too and it helped win her the only round. She also used a bottom body triangle which is pretty rare. Joe usually says there’s nothing you can do there, but Tammy Musumeci actually grabbed a kimura from bottom body triangle against Mackenzie Dern which she used to sweepYuya Wakamatsu hit a nice switch counter twice on Demetrious Johnson’s single leg attempts in round 1. DJ made the adjustment and started going for doublesIt wasn’t actually Tim Nasty’s punches that hurt Eddie, but Eddie finally feeling the years of damage caused from EDDDDDDIIIIIEEEE shout out Lion’s Roar Lady from Kung Fu HustleBEARJEWJITSU the scissor sweep bait/trap to triangle was fucking nasty. One of the first jiu jitsu instructional I watched was Ryan Hall showing a hip bump sweep to triangle, so that was amazing. And then he goes baseball grip double wrist control pull into triangle... lol. that last one was just bad in my opinion. That’s some shit that shouldn’t work. I’ve seen it done when you can grab the gi, but in MMA I dunno about that. Craigs legs are pretty long and his triangle and armbars are pretty. The 6 ft 3 205lbs bottom good lord. Plus, making guard pulling great again.Angela Lee hit a very nice hand trap to right hand into clinch/takedown in round 4 vs. XJN. She eventually got the back and transitioned to a reverse triangle armbar. Most girls would’ve tapped. Why going for choked in pro fights is better I think but of course not always possibleKarolina also survived Waterson’s armbar attempt. Waterson who attempted straight from side control, which is fairly rareThe grappling in Holland vs Gerald was a throwback to 90s Pancrase and Shooto. They clearly do not agree with “position before submission”. It’s like they were flow rollingWorld Champion Muay Thai fighter’s continuing to find success with 4oz Muay Thai. I think Muay Thai guys generally use the “shell up” defence less than Kickboxers and its one of the reasons they’re finding more success. Looking forward to see this scene continue to grow and who emerges at the topBorg and Kenney has an absolutely exhausting fight. They had to work for every advantage, every escape. Kenney would give up his back and stand straight back up turn hard and grab an underhook. Borg was able to stop this in round 3, but Kenney still found other ways to get up.Borg had a few instances of winning tiny battles on the cage like actively stopping Kenney from getting underhook. There was a lot of technique, but also a lot of explosion to get out of bad positionsKevin Aguilar showed a fantastic understanding of defending takedowns and disengaging from clinches. Barzola’s coaches were game too offering him solid technical advice like switching from doubles to singles (it might’ve been singles to doubles) and also telling him to throw hooks in round 3. In round 3 he did just that, cut off the cage and started pressuring hard and had a really good round. It would’ve been interesting to see how Aguilar would’ve dealt with that kind of pressure and attack earlier. And makes me wonder about round structuring in MMA and how it’s pretty much only ever 3 rounders unless it’s a title fight or main event whereas boxing you have 6, 10, 12 etc rounders.Jack Hermansson with his second modified arm in guillotine (I’m calling it a “knee in” guillotine just for what feels like a catchy easy to say specific variation name). Lamas used the same knee in guillotine against Bermudez in the past. There’s a good video on Youtube breaking down how to do this technique and it even went over how if this “knee in” guillotine failed you’re still in a great position to arm drag and take the back again as opposed to other guillotines where you just end up on your back. I actually seem to recall Hermansson already showing that in a previous fight via /r/MMA https://ift.tt/2HNx7W4
