38 [M4F] CT/New England/NY Anywhere - Artist looking for a connection and inspiration, somebody to talk with about anything and everything

Hey there! My main reason for reaching out here is because I've really been missing that feeling of having that special connection with someone. Having that somebody you talk to about everything from the mundane and trivial to the deep and thoughtful. I'm not in a situation right now where I meet a lot of new people, and while I love and value my friends, I'm the odd man out, unmarried, no children. I'm hoping to find somebody looking for a similar connection, willing to take the time to get to know each other and to see where it goes. I'm open to it all, as long as you are single. I've recently entered a new phase in my life, having left a soul-crushing job to pursue my artwork full time. It would be wonderful to have somebody to share this journey with, to be inspired by and to create things for. If you're a fellow creative type, then even better!

So, some things about me. I'm 38, from Connecticut, born and raised. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm an artist. I practice primarily digital illustration, focusing a lot on Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, things in those veins. On the subject of genres, I'm an avid reader (quite guilty of buying more books when my "unread" pile remains quite sizable), and I tend to read those same genres, with a bit of ancient mythology and astronomy books sprinkled in. Some favorite authors are R.A. Salvatore, Neal Stephenson and Carl Sagan. Secondhand bookstores are my heaven. Oh man, don't even get me started.

I'm a bit of a night owl, if you are too, that's great. There's something special about those long conversations that go deep into the night. I also find the quiet later hours to be the time I do some of my best artwork.

I also game a bit, on PC and PS4. I take residence in fictional worlds, drawing inspiration from other creators, it's something that's always inspired me greatly, and I suppose there's a bit of escapism involved as well.

When it comes to music I listen to a wide variety. I'm one of those "one big playlist with a few hundred songs and put it on random" people. Though I don't remain fiercely loyal to a particular genre, my interests tend to gravitate towards rock and electronica, mostly Trance. I will say this though, if you like the band Coheed and Cambria in any capacity, we'll get along great! One of my ideal zen situations to get away from it all, is to go for a night time drive on quiet back roads listening to some soothing or uplifting Trance music.

I'm really interested in astronomy and keep telling myself I'll go to a night-sky festival or a proper observatory sometime soon. Maybe even dabble in astro-photography. It's a frequent hobby of mine to blow my own mind by comprehending how insignificant humanity is in the grand scheme of the universe (seriously, have you heard about Hubble's Ultra Deep Field photos?), but then stop and realize how amazing it is that we even exist at all, how we're all assembled atomically.

I enjoy travelling although I've done far too little of it recently. I spent my 3rd year of college living in England, a lifelong dream of mine at that point, and had the time of my life. I would love to go back there someday. I brought back with me an irregular love of British television. I like to watch a lot of comedy shows, panel shows, sit-coms and game shows from there. It's an odd way to kind of feel like I'm still there. David Mitchell, James Acaster, if those names mean anything to you, let's talk :)

I love learning things from people, so if you have different interests I happily take inspiration from them as well. I have a relaxed, laid back view on life, taking my time to enjoy the simpler things and being awe inspired by the big ones. I love to laugh and make people laugh, and can dish and take a fair amount of sarcasm ;) I've got my goals and aspirations, I know what I'm working towards. But I have also learned that being happy on the journey is important as well. And part of that is finding someone to share in the experience with. I miss having somebody I could talk to whenever either person just felt like talking. How'd your day go? What made you happy, or pissed you off? I want to hear about it, and talk about what my day entailed, too. Just having that connection where you see that name pop up and know that whether you talked for hours or just a few minutes, somebody gets you, and it ushers you a little further in your day. Although this isn't necessarily something you can look for, but rather be fortunate enough to find, it's nice to know there are others looking for the same out there.

So if you're searching for similar, even if you don't see a lot in common here, feel free to send a message, I'd be happy to connect either way! If we click, I'm happy to share my normal reddit name. Just erring on the side of caution for now with an alternate name :)

Thanks for reading, I look forward to hearing from you!
