Wedding photographer took our money and ghosted us after the wedding. Seems to have happened to others, too.
My amazing wife and I got married in September 2019. Many months before this, we looked through several portfolios, found a photographer we thought we liked, and hired her for $1,100 (this is a low cost of living area). She seemed to do a great job at the wedding, and we got tons of priceless shots of our families and close friends with us. She initially provided us with a dozen or so "sneak peak" photos, and said she'd have the rest of them soon. I trusted her and gave her time.We began reaching out to her again in early December, but didn't hear anything. We followed up with snail mail (through some sleuthing, I found three addresses that correspond with her, or did at one time recently), multiple e-mails, many text messages, multiple phone calls, multiple facebook messages, and even through her pinterest. Our messages to her were frequent, courteous, and completely unanswered. After looking at some of her more recent reviews online, everyone who recently hired her experienced the same problem, and seem to have never gotten their photos. It seems she's still alive, as there's still some social media presence. We have plenty of documentation in the forms of our e-mail and text message correspondence prior to the wedding, which included our payment and the services expected, as well as a formal contract. The one additional wrench is my wife and I live on the East Coast, and our photographer lives in the Midwest, where we had our wedding. The other wrench is we don't have an address for her that we're 100% sure is valid, which makes it difficult to pursue any legal action.I've researched several options, but I'm not sure how well they'd work. These include:- filing a police report- pursuing a legal injunction- small claims court- going through the state attorney general's consumer protection division, to try to file a lawsuit through themIt's sad. All of our friends and family are scattered throughout the country. We'll never have them in the same place again, and we didn't even get photos of it. We don't even care about getting money back, it's the photos that are invaluable.Thank you all for sharing your advice and wisdom :) https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/eiq39y/wedding_photographer_took_our_money_and_ghosted/?utm_source=ifttt
